Program Description

In this CME-certified program, Dr. Robert Motzer discusses how targeted therapies are changing the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma. The multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) sunitinib and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor temsirolimus have both demonstrated superiority over interferon-α in patients with metastatic RCC. Moreover, combination therapy with interferon-α and the antiangiogenic agent bevacizumab provides a progression-free survival benefit over interferon-α alone. For patients with metastatic RCC requiring second-line treatment, the multi-targeted TKI sorafenib has demonstrated a progression-free survival benefit over placebo. Ongoing studies are evaluating combinations of targeted agents to enhance their efficacy.

Target Audience
This activity will be designed for community- and hospital-based medical oncologists, hematologists, urologists, nephrologists, and allied healthcare providers who provide medical care and support to patients with renal cell carcinoma.

  Improve outcomes in patients with metastatic RCC through the effective use of targeted therapies
